Petronas Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi will return to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the first of two official days of testing on Tuesday despite missing new parts as he wraps up his final MotoGP season.

After showing a promising pace on Sunday, Rossi regretted his fall in qualifying, knowing that with a better start there was more potential from his home race than he was able to muster that day.

“Unfortunately, Saturday’s crash made me start 23rd and that’s a problem,” Rossi explained on Sunday night.

“At the beginning, I was able to recover a certain position in the first turn but after, in the four turn, I have some confusion, some touching and at the end I was on the outside and I have to get out of the track, I wasted time and I was last. From that moment I tried to ride, I tried to push and my pace was ok. I was able to do some overtaking – Dovi, Oliveira, Morbidelli and I was with Petrucci and I think I was P3 when I fight with those names! – but unfortunately the position was a little worse, “he joked.

“But anyway, the shame is that it wasn’t enough for the points. The race was very difficult but the pace was pretty good. After it was good at the end, after the flag, with all the fans, it was a moving moment and I appreciate it.

The Italian was also proud to celebrate the talents of the many riders he has nurtured and inspired over the past few years, with VR46 Academy riders achieving multiple successes on their home track.

“It’s great, it’s something special,” he said of the accomplishments. “Today was a good day for the Academy riders, because we made the double podium in Moto3 with Migno and Antonelli and I’m very, very happy for them – especially for Migno, because Antonelli is already riding on the podium at Silverstone, and also Migno deserved it – they have a fantastic race.

“Also the second consecutive victory for Pecco. Pecco takes two pole positions with the lap record, and two wins, leading more or less all laps. I think Pecco is still very fast this year but the victory in Aragon gives him something more, like a mental break-up.

“So I think it will now be a very, very good fight, especially with Quartararo, to watch, because I think they are the two fastest riders of the season. It’s a shame that Pecco is losing a lot of points at the start. championship but anyway the championship is not over yet and I think we can see a very good fight until the end.

Rossi has plenty of experience with the new MotoGP winner and rising star, including a plethora of track days on their respective road bikes around the Rimini layout, so he had no doubts about the potential of the 24-hour rider. years.

“Yes, Pecco is still very, very fast with the Panigale in Misano, he had an incredible lap time. It drives so well. Usually Pecco and Luca, as well as Luca drive the Panigale, they are faster than us with the R1, also because the Panigale is much faster, has a lot more power. Usually we fight more with Bezz[MarcoBezzecchi}becausewestaywiththeR1ButPeccoisverystrongandlastyearthehighestridingatabetterlevel[MarcoBezzecchi}becausewestaytogetherwiththeR1ButPeccoisvelhisverystearthrinthetheveling[MarcoBezzecchi}carnousrestonsavecleR1MaisPeccoesttrèstrèsfortetl’annéedernièreilaélevésacirconscriptionàunmeilleurniveau[MarcoBezzecchi}becausewestaytogetherwiththeR1ButPeccoisveryverystrongandinthelastyearheraisedhisridingtoabetterlevel

“I think Italy in MotoGP is in a good situation, even without me, and that’s positive for all movements in Italy. I think we will have Pecco who can fight for the championship already this year and also next year. I think next year will also be very strong Franco Morbidelli, because with the Yamaha factory he is very fast and very strong. So I think he can fight for the championship. On the Academy side, we will also have my brother, and maybe Bezzecchi, it’s not decided yet, it’s not official but I think they are two very fast riders, as they demonstrate in Moto2 . And also Bastianini, Bastianini is not our rider, but today it was impressive, incredible, he was very fast. All weekend he rode like hell and today the race was awesome he also did the fastest lap so kudos to him and I think he can have a very bright future.

Returning to the subject, Rossi explained that he will be on track again this week for the official MotoGP practice, but that the Petronas team has little room for improvement as the final races of their illustrious team approach. career, including a second home outing.

“We decide to take the test, minimum Tuesday,” he confirmed. “I think just one day because we have nothing to test but we try to work on certain settings, the balance of the bike, on the tires, so that the bike will improve before the end of the championship.

“Misano II is a difficult date, because at the end of October anything can happen, in Misano. You can get really cold, you can have heavy rain, but you can also have a good weekend, it’s a fall weekend so we must be lucky. The next one is in Austin. In Austin, the last time I was very strong, I like the track so we are trying, we will see there.
